The report was finalized after the group met for more than 14 months beginning in November 2010. The committee’s purpose was to develop short- and long-term goals for the library system in three areas: facilities, funding and service and technology.Since 2007, the library system has cut 40 percent of its budget and 93 staff positions. Branches have fewer hours and days of operation. Two branches were eliminated and some key services, such as housebound and outreach services, were suspended, according to the report. The system also made steep reductions in its materials budget.In order to reach its goals in the future, library administrators propose to develop a marketing strategy that includes emphasizing the importance of libraries in the community and creating awareness of its services offered now and in the future. The library hopes to utilize several social media outlets.
