Metrowest Delivery Policies

Standardized payments for Library materials irreparably damaged while in the Metrowest delivery system.

Rationale

: This set of policy statements and procedures establishes consistent practices regarding materials damaged while in transit from one point to another within the Metrowest Region's delivery service system.

• Claims must be submitted no latter than five working days of receipt of the damaged item.

• The damaged item must be sent to the Metrowest Regional Office when a claim is submitted.

• Libraries will claim actual purchase price, not list price, for an item if these costs should differ.

• Processing costs, including binding, will not be included in a claim for reimbursement.

• Cost will be established using Amazon.com, Books-in-Print, other generally recognized pricing guides, or publishers' catalogues.

• The maximum claim for a single item will be $100.00

• The library is not obliged to replace the damaged item.

• The library is not obliged to replace the damaged item with the same physical format.

[The contents of any single delivery bin will be reimbursed to a limit of $100.00. $100.00 is the maximum insured coverage for the contents of any single transport container]

EXCEPTION

The replacement/reimbursement cost of an item not returned to a loaning library by the borrowing library, or returned damaged beyond usefulness, is the sole responsibility of the borrowing library.

The above prices are based on review of Books-in-Print, Amazon.com, and Publishers' Trade List Annual. Prices will be reviewed biennially.

These policies were adopted by the Executive Board of the Metrowest Region at their meeting of July 26, 2000.
