The Museum of African American History/African American Heritage Trail  (7/9/01)
This is a recommended field trip, but if you cannot make it to Boston, the sites are excellent resources for information on Massachusetts’ role in African American history and culture especially the underground railroad and Civil War eras.  The National Parks Service gives free tours and the links from the museum site contain classroom activities.  The NGA site has good background information on the Shaw Memorial statue from an artistic perspective.
